EARLIER THIS MONTH, we told you the sad story of Burger King’s black Halloween Whopper, which many people claimed turned their poo green.
Grim enough, but if you thought that would put fast food chains off experimenting with food colouring, you were wrong.
McDonald’s in China recently released the limited edition Modern China Burger, which features a pork burger, bacon, a Sichuan dressing and a grey bun. Because grey is a colour that food should be.
In the promotional pictures, it looks shiny and silver:
But in real life, it sort of looks like a slab of concrete.
Writers from Time Out Beijing taste-tested the burger, and decided that the bun represented the “clouds of pollution” that hang over the city.
They did say the burger itself was unexpectedly tasty though:
I can totally imagine ordering [the burger] this weekend a few pints in. It’s dangerous… The Coldplay of burgers.
The grey burger is on sale in China until November 3 – we hope and pray that McDonald’s Ireland will not be getting notions about burgers any other colour than beige.
